The Weekend

The memorial day weekend seemed like it went on forever which was wonderful as it was definitely a busy weekend in the Haigh household and we got a lot of chores crossed off the list.

Saturday morning we woke up bright and cheery as somehow Westyn slept through the night (9:30-6:45) and Troy and I actually woke up a bit startled thinking something was wrong. We have started a routine where every night we give Westyn a bath and "massage" lotion on her limbs, she LOVES baths and it definitely gets her thinking it's sleepy time. We have also started reading to her at night which is actually pretty funny since Troy has taken to reading Dr. Seuss books; which I never realized before but are quite hard to read from all the rhyming. I think this is definitely playing a part in her sleeping longer hours...thank god.

Since we were up so early Troy went to pick up the mulch (before the lines started) that we spent the morning and afternoon spreading in our yard. Westyn happily spent the afternoon in her swing in the shade and let me help out in the yard as well.

Sunday we headed out to the Canal for a couple days of skiing (yes I sported a bikini for a few days) and spending time with family. I wasn't able to get behind the boat last summer since I was pregnant so this was something I was really looking forward to, as was my Dad. The water wasn't as calm as I would have hoped but it was decent enough for a once around. Monday we spent the afternoon in the sun with my parents and then drove home for a quite evening in our newly barked yard.

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! Enjoy the beautiful weather!

Dress up

Westyn and I have been playing dress-up quite a bit these days as her 3 month outfits which are so darling are starting to get too small so I wanted her to wear them at least once even if it means wearing 5 outfits per day. She has fun with me for the first few outfits and then she starts to get a bit cranky which is understandable seeing that I'm pulling and tugging on her little arms and legs.

Today marks her 2 month birthday so Troy and I took her to her 2-month Dr's appointment this morning for her first round of shots. She was a real trooper and didn't really cry at all; she actually fell asleep immediately afterwards. Today she weighed in at 13 pounds and 23 1/4 inches long - she is in the 95% for both. The doc called her a beautiful chunky baby and I couldn't agree more.

Here are some pics from our dress-up session this afternoon.

this is from last night before bedtime..so cute

8 weeks old already....?

Or does it seem like we have had Westyn forever?? These past 8 weeks seem to have flown by, but then again it seems like Westyn's "birth" day was years ago and she should be going on 3.

I'll be the first to admit that having a newborn baby is hard work especially if you were very selfish with your time like Troy and I 'used' to be. Now our nights are totally devoted to giving Westyn baths, scrambling to eat dinner by 5:30 pm, calming her down while she cries from 7-9pm EVERY NIGHT (she is at the stage where she fights sleeping so she cries for hours at a time), and then possibly, just maybe having a few minutes to ourselves while she's in her swing....nah nevermind scratch that last statement because that hasn't happened in.... well.... exactly 8 weeks and 2 days. But as hard and exhausting as it is, I wouldn't change it for anything. She is AMAZING, literally, and growing and evolving into this little girl everyday.

When we get her to smile and make her precious little noises it makes my heart do these little leaps that I didn't know they could do. I love my little family so much and enjoy each new day that we have together.

On another note, as a tribute to Mother's Day, I wanted to wish every Mom; new and old or almost, a very Happy Mother's Day. I also wanted to thank my Mom for being the most amazing person I know and for being the very best friend that she is. I am so fortunate that they live only a few minutes from us which makes it easy to pop in whenever I want, which I do often. Thank you for helping me as much as you do and being the ear that I need 8 times a day when I call with worries about Westyn or simple recipe questions. Love you!

Without further ado, here is the little munchkin at 8 weeks.

The Beach

This last weekend Troy and I decided to get out of town and head to the ocean. Our friends Dave and Kelly have a place in Long Beach so they invited us for the weekend at their perfect little cabin. The weather didn't really cooperate but it was fun regardless. Kenai had the best time as he had never been to the ocean/real beach before and he loved all the running he could do since it went on forever. However, it was hard to be so far from home as I stressed out over the littlest things that had to do with Westyn; stuffy nose, watery poop, sweating too much.....you name it. I have become a paranoid Mom! I don't think we'll venture so far away for a few more months until Westyn gets a bit older. The Canal will definitely be a sufficient getaway for a while, which is more than fine with me.
Here are a few pics from the weekend.

I just love here little face when she's sleeping - her button nose is sooo cute
